Check your attitude

Opening Text:
Philippians 2:5-7 KJV ‘Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.’

The Message

Attitude means a settled way of thinking or feeling about something. The Greek word that is translated as “your attitude” is the word phroneo and it carries the sense of a mind-set or a way of thinking. In principle it says that we should have the same mind-set as Christ or we should think in the same way that Christ was thinking. As a Christian, your attitude should be the same as Christ Jesus.

Your attitude toward being a worker for the house of God is more important than your position in the kingdom. Remember Jesus said, “the first will be last and the last will be first.” Working for the kingdom of God by serving others is not below your position. Rather, it is your duty as a Christian.

You must begin by asking God to give you a servant’s heart, to put in your path those whom you can serve and help you to eliminate the excuses that keep you from serving. A good Christian should relentlessly check his attitude.
In examining your attitude, you should ask yourself, what is Christ attitude like? Remember, Jesus was already co-equal with God. Jesus is the pre-existent person referred to in Genesis 1:26when God said, “Let us make man in our own image and after our likeness.” Again, Jesus is the eternal logos, the eternal truth mentioned in John 1:1-3 that says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

From the above passage, we know that Jesus did not need to be invited into God’s presence; He dwells in the presence of God at all times.
However, when the need arose to redeem humankind from the penalty of their sins, Jesus spontaneously and gladly gave up His eternal prominence. He gave up glory in order to share our grief and sorrow. He gave up heaven in order to save us from hell. He gave up a place at the right hand of God in order to take our place on a cruel cross. He who knew no sin became sin for us so that our sins could be forgiven.
